These are the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The first one is responsible for establishing the IP ratings while the later one is responsible for setting the NEMA standard for electrical enclosure. Both organizations are purely devoted in establishing quality standards that will result to safety and good quality.
However, there is a difference on where these ratings are used. For IEC, it has set the standard for the world’s manufacturers of electrical enclosures. While the NEMA only serves as a US standard for electrical enclsoures. For Canada and Mexico, they also have independent organization that set the standards for the manufacture of electrical enclosures.
